Naza, by Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, two of the filmmakers behind the Oscar-winning documentary No Other Land, investigates the systems behind the large-scale civilian death toll in Gaza. In secret nighttime conversations on the rooftops of Tel Aviv, Israeli military and intelligence personnel describe how targets are selected, which technologies are used and how anticipated civilian casualties are factored into military operations. According to testimony presented in the film, dozens and sometimes hundreds of Palestinian civilians may be considered acceptable collateral damage for a single target, an account disputed by Israeli authorities. The title refers to Nezek Agavi, the Israeli military term for “collateral damage”, which the film uses as a symbol for a system in which civilian deaths become part of calculations and procedure. Naza premiered at the Venice Film Festival, where it won the Special Jury Prize.
