Flora x Tabaria Cafe.
This specific screening of Palestine 36 will be strengthened with an aftertalk by Fatima Mahmoud, founder of Tabaria Cafe.
With pop ups and special events Fatima puts effort into (re)connection with Palestinian heritage, to honor and celebrate it, which forms into: Tabaria Cafe. A place where there is space for community and supporting the Palestinian cause, through culture and coming together.
After watching the film together, the aftertalk by Fatima will focus on the (re)connection to Palestinian culture, its value that sometimes seems to be more and more forgotten and how the movie Palestine 36 visualizes issues that are still painfully present.
movie desciption
It is 1936 and Palestine is under British Mandate rule, while growing support for Zionist immigration and land allocations further intensifies existing tensions. Against this backdrop, Palestine 36 follows several Palestinian Arabs whose lives are swept into the Arab revolt against British colonial power and the expansion of Jewish settlements. Annemarie Jacir weaves their stories into an ambitious historical drama about ordinary people who, each in their own way, are forced to take a position in a conflict that will define their future. With a cast including Karim Daoud Anaya, Yasmine Al Massri, Hiam Abbass and Jeremy Irons, the film shows how resistance is born from loss, injustice and the urgent need to survive.
