Art student Una is having a secret relationship with Diddi, and they dream of a future together. However, before that can happen, Diddi must first end his relationship with his official girlfriend. On his way to meet Una, the unimaginable occurs: Diddi dies in a devastating tunnel fire that claims many lives. Una hears the news at school, and hours of uncertainty follow for her and Diddi's friends as they are supported by authorities. When it's confirmed that Diddi has indeed passed away, their world shatters.

In the intimate drama When The Light Breaks, acclaimed Icelandic director Rúnar Rúnarsson (Volcano, Sparrows) paints an intense portrait of grief, connection, and the complex dynamics between love and loss. He shows how sorrow can manifest differently for everyone, allowing space for each individual's emotions. This, combined with the cinematography of Sophia Olsson, who brings the stunning Icelandic landscapes to life, creates a deeply moving experience.

Spoken in Icelandic, subtitled in English.
