El Jockey - EN subs

Through its absurd humor and sharp contrasts,  El Jockey evokes the work of Wes Anderson, Yorgos Lanthimos, and Aki Kaurismäki. It is the new film by Luis Ortega, the leading Argentine director renowned for his poetically charged and visually intense style. Ortega achieved international breakthrough with El ángel (2018), which was selected for the Cannes Film Festival and, like El Jockey, was submitted for the Oscars.

Once, Remo Manfredini was a legendary jockey, but his self-destructive behavior led him astray. Now, he races mainly to pay off his towering debts to a criminal gang led by the shady mob boss Sirena. During the most important race of his life, disaster strikes: Remo causes a tragic accident in which one of the most valuable horses is killed. He himself is gravely injured. When he regains consciousness in the hospital, he goes on the run. With bandages still wrapped around his head, he assumes a new identity and wanders through the streets of Buenos Aires, fleeing from Sirena.
