Director Paolo Sorrentino (La grande bellezza, Youth) returns with his new, breathtaking film La Grazia, once again featuring a powerful leading role for Toni Servillo.

He plays an Italian president in his final term, who must make a number of important decisions while also coming to terms with the loss of his wife. The presidency of Mariano De Santis (Toni Servillo) is drawing to a close. In the echoing halls of the presidential palace, he leads a lonely existence, mourning his wife. Before returning to ordinary life, De Santis must decide on two major issues that still lie before him: clemency requests from controversial prisoners and a euthanasia law. His moral objections clash with human desires. What will his legacy be to his beloved Italy? Sorrentino captures his story in stunning images and is not afraid to surrender to music at times—just like his protagonist.

La Grazia was the opening film at the Venice Film Festival, where Toni Servillo received the award for Best Actor. “Sorrentino has made some beauties in his career. This is one of his best” (Deadline).
